How many classes do I need to take weekly?

Depends on 2 factors: how fast you want to reach your goals and your level of Spanish when you start the course with us. If you have zero or basic Spanish, we recommend a minimum of 3 classes per week and maximum of 5. The more classes you take, the faster you will get to your goal (basic math).

How long it will take me to learn Spanish?

Again, this also depends on how fast you want to take your Spanish to the next level and your pace as well. Statistically, if you take 4 - 5 classes per week and study a minimum of 30 minutes every day, you should reach the basic level of A1 in about 3 months.

Do I need to study a lot every day?

No, you don’t need to spend 4 - 5 hours of your day studying vocabulary and grammar. The most important thing is consistency. Studying every day, even if it’s just 10 - 20 minutes, is more effective than studying 5 hours one day a week.

What if I don’t like to study grammar or vocabulary?

Well, maybe you are adding emotions to the word “study”. There are so many fun ways to practice a language. You can listen to music or podcasts, watch movies or TV shows, meet native speakers, and the list goes on.

When I started taking classes with Carla, my Spanish was already at a decent conversational level, but I felt that I wasn't improving after a few months of living in Medellin. Primarily, I wanted to improve my listening skills.
After 3+ months of classes with her, I can say that I'm almost never translating what I hear in my head, and the language feels slower.
As the other reviewers point out, her classes are always fun and entertaining. Every class we discussed a different topic or listened to audio. Many times I was the very last class she had for the day, but I could never tell that since she always had strong positive energy. As I'm someone that easily gets lazy, I really respect that about Carla.
Whether you're a complete beginner or conversational, I highly recommend Carla!

I took 4-weeks of lessons with Carla, and I highly recommend her. In the past, I've had experience learning a bit of Spanish from other teachers, group classes, etc. - but none of them compare to her. Here are some reasons for why she excels in teaching Spanish:
1. [Structure and teaching style] - the structure of the class is helpful, as she makes everything really easy to follow and grasp. Her unique approach is through: real-life application, providing helpful examples, and tailoring her teaching style to your best method of learning. What I particularly enjoy is how she caters to you personally, based off what you want to learn and what your end-goal is from taking these Spanish classes with her. The way she teaches allows you to retain a lot of knowledge, all while learning fast and effectively (the best!) She is also very organized, sends calendar invites, is always on time, and makes sure that you get the most out of each class.
2. [Enthusiasm] - she always has great energy. Her passion for teaching and connecting with her students really shines, and I look forward everyday to going to class because of how easy it is to connect with her and be uplifted by her positive enthusiasm, jokes, and conversation (in Spanish, of course!) You'll find yourself really enjoying learning Spanish and practicing it with her. Trust me, time flies in class with her.
3. [Progress] - you'll notice quickly that your Spanish will greatly improve with Carla's help. She will push you - but just the right amount to allow you to realize your full potential. She is very patient and will make sure you do not repeat the same mistakes, all while remaining encouraging. She effortlessly instills confidence in you - an essential in speaking any language!

I took daily classes with Carla for over three and a half months while I was in Medellin. She is a great teacher and very patient - she always remained positive and upbeat. When I first started I knew pretty much no Spanish but that quickly changed over the few months I was there. Originally our classes were quite structured as I was just getting started, but later became more flexible and changed according to particular topics I wanted to learn. As she has gone through the process of learning and becoming fluent in English, she’s able to use that experience and relate to some of the difficulties I was encountering. Plus her classes were always fun and interesting.
When I return to Medellin I will definitely be taking classes again with her. No matter your Spanish level I’m sure Carla can offer structured or customized lessons that meets your needs. I highly recommend anyone to take classes with Carla if you’re looking to improve your Spanish!

She was great at assessing my current level, focusing on what was important to learn next, and helping me with pronunciation. “I spent 2 months studying with Carla and I can't recommender her enough. We would meet a few times per week in various locations throughout Poblado (usually a cafe or restaurant). Carla was a great Spanish teacher. She was always prepared with materials and lesson plans that built on the previous one. Given that she is a fluent English speaker it allowed for a more in-depth teaching style. Carla emphasized pronunciation, proper spelling and punctuations. She was accountable and easy to communicate with when scheduling tutoring sessions also. You will not be disappointed by giving her a try!

I studied Spanish a little bit in college, but when I saw the confused looks of the people I spoke with in Mexico I knew it was time to start studying again. My lessons with Carla have been transformational. She seems to know exactly what I need to study and carefully plans the grammar, tenses, and vocabulary that I need. What sets Carla apart, however, is her ability to teach this information in an engaging, fun way! We converse and practice carefully, but even though she is sure to correct my errors, the flow of our classes is effortless. We laugh and tell stories and before you know it, the hour is up! She's patient with my mistakes and lets me set the pace of our lessons; pushing me to improve, but never making me feel dumb! I've gotten to know her well (she's delightful!) and look forward to each class. My Spanish is improving and I'd never go back to group lessons. Skype is a great and convenient way to collaborate. If you're considering Spanish lessons, don't go to anyone else!!

Studying with Carla has been awesome! I had a bit of a base starting off since I had studied Spanish for 3 years way back in high school, and Carla was able to quickly gauge my level and tailor our classes according to what I needed to work on. I progressed way quicker than I would've thought, and I quickly found myself actually enjoying my homework instead of just trying to rush through it (in a way that I'm sure we're all familiar with). The classes themselves were always a lot of fun. Carla is really good at coming up with interesting and fun ways of doing lessons, which I'm sure helped immensely with my learning and retention. Each class also seemed effortless, which I think is a testament to Carla's preparation. I'm sad my classes have ended but I'm definitely planning on restarting them when I come back to Medellin.

We took the classes with my girlfriend and we couldn't be more satisfied. Carla is a very good teacher! She understood our needs and prepared classes accordingly. When we arrived to LATAM we were able to say "Hola" and now in Mexico we are pretty confident various situations we are getting in. I think the biggest advantage is that Carla speaks fluent english - that makes our communication a lot easier, as we worked during the day, we were able to agree on dates and times which are the best for us and also classes with Carla are fun! What a great Spanish teacher! ❤️ Originally I wanted to study Spanish just through an online course. Then I saw Carla teaching her students in a coworking space I worked and immediately wanted to try her classes as well - and I'm glad I did! It's fun! You work on grammar, vocabulary, conversation and she also compels you to work on your Spanish at home - I actually liked doing my homeworks (sometimes 😒). Highly redommended!

Carla is the most craziest teacher I have ever met. I start learning Spanish while having my 6-week internship program in Barcelona, Spain. I was surprised that I was already able to have the self introduction after first lesson. Having 20 hours with Carla was even better than other spent over hundreds of hours.
